Fire Chief Kazuo S.K.L. Todd Chief Kazuo Todd

Fire Chief Kazuo Todd has been with the Hawai’i Fire Department since 2004.  He holds an Associate’s Degree in Fire Science from Hawaii Community College, and a Bachelor’s degree in Fire Administration from Colorado State University.  Prior to his appointment to Fire Chief in April of 2021, Chief Todd served as the Battalion Chief of Auxiliary services for the previous 5 years.  Chief Todd follows a “servant leadership” philosophy, believing that the goal of the leader is to focus primarily on the well-being of the people he leads and the community he serves.  As a leader in the Hawaii Fire Department, he has always used a creative approach to solving problems and has embraced progressive changes.  Safety, integrity, communication, and transparency, are four major tenets he follows in his professional and personal life.  As a career long student Chief Todd actively seeks out training to improve himself and continues to participate in the National Fire Academy’s Executive Fire Officer Program.  He is an active member of the Hawaii Fire Chiefs Association and the International Association of Fire Chiefs as well as other professional organizations.  Chief Todd is a third generation public servant to our community and is passionate about serving this beautiful Island he calls home.

Assistant Fire Chief Ian Chadwick

Ian Chadwick joined the Fire Service in 1995 as a volunteer firefighter on Hatteras Island, NC.  After moving to the Big Island in 1999, he joined Hawai‘i Fire Department as a career firefighter in 2004.  During his employment with Hawai‘i Fire Department, Chief Chadwick has held the position of Firefighter, Designated Mobile Intensive Care Technician, Fire Equipment Operator, Fire Captain, and Operations Battalion Chief.  Chief Chadwick has a Bachelor’s degree in Finance from George Mason University and is a 2023 graduate of the National Fire Academy's prestigious Executive Fire Officer program.  He is currently the Assistant Fire Chief of Support Services and is the National Fire Incident Reporting System program manager for Hawai‘i Fire Department.
