IMPORTANT INFORMATION ON SERVICES

Updated 2/07/2022 - Beginning on July 1, 2021, we will allow walk-ins for customers wishing to renew their expired vehicle registrations as well as those that have registrations set to expire within the next 30 days. Walk ins will be assisted in between scheduled appointments and as operations permits.

For all other transactions, use the online scheduler to make an appointment. Plan to arrive at your appointment 15 minutes prior to the appointment time. Your appointment may be canceled or rescheduled if you arrive 10 minutes late. Please limit your transactions to one per appointment.

Alternative methods to renewing your registration renewals without coming into our offices include:

Mail in your renewal, if required, include a copy of your current Hawai'i Certificate of Safety Inspection. Address your envelope to: 101 Pauahi St., Suite 5, Hilo, HI 96720
Use one of our Renewal Kiosks located at the Hilo or Kona Safeway, Waimea Foodland, County of Hawaiʻi Aupuni Center Lobby, and West Hawai'i Civic Center inside the snack shop. If your safety inspection is expired, you are unable to renew your registration at the Kiosk.
Use the online application form. If your safety inspection is expired, you are unable to renew your registration online. Do not renew your registration online if your address has changed.
Use our "drop box" located at our Hilo Motor Vehicle Registration office at the Aupuni Center (101 Pauahi St., Suite 5, Hilo). The drop box is located on our wall.
Use our "drop box" located at the West Hawaii Civic Center near the snack shop

Special Hours

Vehicle Registration for Out of State Transfers and Salvage Vehicles 8:00AM - 3:00PM only. Please anticipate a two to three hour wait. Office hours are subject to change without notice due to unforeseen circumstances and may close earlier than posted hour. We apologize for any inconvenience.

All correspondence should be addressed to VRL-MVR, 101 Pauahi St., Suite 5, Hilo, HI 96720. We are unable to process mail at our Pahoa and Waimea VRL offices.
